As part of the annual Scholars Week celebration of student academic achievement, Western Washington University students presented research posters Thursday, May 13, in Carver Gym. The presentations continue on Friday, May 14.

The Ethnic Student Center at Western Washington University put on its biggest event of the year, Culture Shock, on Thursday, May 14, in the Performing Arts Center on Western's Bellingham campus.
At the annual event, members of the ESC, other students at WWU and various community members showcase their cultures and learn from others. Among the many performances were spoken word, music and cultural dances.
The annual Take Back the Night rally and march took place May 12. A performance by spoken-word poet Vanessa McGowan in the PAC kicked off the evening. A march and vigil followed.
The annual event aims to end street violence and harassment of people of marginalized gender identities.

Western Washington University's Department of Design is holding its annual Design Days events through Thursday, May 14, in various locations on campus, including Communications Facility, Miller Hall, Red Square and Vendor’s Row.
All activities are free and open to the public.
Student clubs in the College of Business and Economics are putting on a number of events this week to showcase their various activities.
One event, called an eco-spective and sponsored by campus sustainability club Net Impact, asked passers by to color on a large mural or to erase parts of the mural depending upon their sustainable actions, such as taking the bus or bicycling to school.

The WWU Hip Hop Association and Sini-GANG, student dance clubs at Western Washington University held their second annual SINI-HHA dance showcase Saturday, May 9, in the Performing Arts Center on Western's Bellingham campus. The "Ready. Set.
Western Washington University's Association for Women in Computing and Association for Computing Machinery held Open Source Day at Viking Union from 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Saturday, May 9.
About 50 people attended the event and learned more about open-source computing through tutorial, panel discussion and one of seven projects.
The one-day workshop was organized by 35 volunteers and mentors, who came from all over the Northwest to help out.
A number of outstanding Western Washington University faculty members will be honored at a special ceremony and reception from 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday, May 7, in the Western Gallery on Western's Bellingham campus.
The event, hosted by WWU Provost Brent Carbajal and Faculty Senate President Spencer Anthony-Cahill, is held annually to honor faculty members for their teaching, research, mentorship and scholarship.
Western Washington University held a two-day celebration of Mongolia during “Mongolia Days” May 5 and 6 on Western’s campus.
Among the events was the “Mongolian Celebration,” which featured opening remarks by Acting Consul General Dorj Bayarkhuu, the Mongolian Consulate of San Francisco, and performances by celebrated Mongolian musicians Adilbish Badmaanyambuu and Bold Chimedregzen.
Transportation Week runs May 4 to 8 on Western Washington University's Bellingham campus.
Events will take place each day, including an info booth in Red Square, a free bike tour of Bellingham, a bike tune-up event and a film on sustainable development.
