Western Washington University's Grandparents U program connects youth ages 7 to 14 to their grandparents in fun new ways July 16 and 17 in Bellingham.

Grandparents and grandchildren work side-by-side as they interact with marine ecology, bring books to life through sculpture, excavate fossils and more. All courses are taught by Western faculty with a focus on hands-on participation and a fun, interactive atmosphere.

People of all ages gathered in the PAC Plaza to see The Female Fiends take the stage at the Summer Noon Concert Series with a performance on the PAC Plaza Wednesday, July 15. The band from Kent played a mix "cuddle rock" music. The Female Fiends also recently performed at Western Washington University's Lawnstock 2015 Event in June.

Next up in the summer series is Carmona Flamenco on June 22.

Western Kids Camp is offered at Western Washington University's Bellingham and Poulsbo locations each summer. The camp, for students in kindergarten through sixth grade, is offered in week-long sessions designed to incorporate both academic and physical activities so that students have a fun time learning.

This week, the camp focused on Art Around the World.

Photos taken from Western Washington University's Bellingham campus on Monday, July 6, reveal a smoky haze over Bellingham Bay and downtown Bellingham. Air quality has been impacted for the past few days because of a number of wildfires burning throughout the Northwest.

Several robotics groups gathered in the Viking Union Multipurpose Room at Western Washington University on Saturday, June 27, for the first local event of its kind: The Whatcom Robotics Expo.

Western Washington University opened its new downtown office in Bellingham's historic Herald Building with a ribbon-cutting ceremony June 19. The move will better connect the university with the downtown, alumni and the entire local community.
