Western Washington University hosted a delegation from Gyeongju University (GU) for a campus visit on Monday, June 1. During the visit, Western Washington University President Bruce Shepard and Gyeongju University President Soon Ja Lee, signed an Academic Cooperation Agreement between the two institutions.

Student members of the Western Washington University National Press Photographer Association held an end-of-year barbecue and portfolio critique on Sunday, May 31, in the Communications Facility on campus.

Roughly 30 students, alumni, faculty and professionals attended the event; professionals from the Seattle Times and the Associated Press gave presentations highlighting women visual journalists in Pacific Northwest.

Western alumna Katherine Frankhauser visited Western Washington University's Bellingham campus Thursday, May 21, to demonstrate electric bicycles and to talk about bike-sharing programs.

A handful of Western Washington University students launched paper airplanes off of the fourth floor of the walkway bridge in between Beta stacks four and seven during a paper airplane competition Thursday, May 21, in front of the Beta residence hall on The Ridge.

Prizes eventually were awarded for best decoration, longest airtime and farthest flight. The event was organized by student Lauren Brigolin as a community-building exercise for Beta-Gamma students.

A fundraising and celebration brunch was held at Western Sunday, May 17, to benefit the nationally recognized and award-winning Compass 2 Campus program at Western Washington University.

The 150 flags are in memory of 150 soldiers from Washington state who lost their lives in Operation Iraqi Freedom. Memorial Day is Monday, May 25.

The flags will come down at 4 p.m. Friday, May 22.

Faculty, staff, students and friends gathered at a retirement party Friday, May 15, in honor of George Mariz, director of the WWU Honors Program and professor in the History Department. Mariz is retiring after more than 40 years at Western Washington University.

Western Washington University's campus was filled with hundreds of alumni, parents, students and community members this past weekend during the annual Back 2 Bellingham celebration May 15 to 17.

The event, put on each year by the Western Alumni Association, featured food, a zip line, theatrical performances, a rock climbing wall, Classes without Quizzes and many other events.

The Western Washington University Alumni Association held a special ceremony May 14 to honor a number of people.

The 2015 Distinguished Alumni and Recognition Ceremony awarded 12 alumni; two devoted friends of the university who utilize their professions to support the community and Western; and this year's Legacy Family, with 11 members who attended or have ties to the university.

The Associated Students Disability Outreach Center held a series of events on Western Washington University's Bellingham campus this week as part of the eighth annual Disability Awareness Week.

Among those events was a concert by Out of the Ashes on Wednesday, May 13, in Fraser Hall. The Bellingham band is composed of people with a wide range of physical and mental disabilities, and perform covers as well as original music.
