The Environmental Studies building is home to Huxley College of the Environment and its environmental studies and environmental sciences departments. It's also home to the College of Humanities and Social Sciences and the geology department, which is part of the College of Science and Engineering.

Each floor has exhibits on display and characteristics of the department it hosts.

The 111,145-square-foot building was constructed in 1973 and renovated two decades later.

The Engineering and Design Department at Western Washington University held an open house on Friday, June 5.

Students demonstrated examples of the department curriculum through a variety of projects that included design, materials formulation, automation, performance analysis and various manufacturing processes (machining, injection molding, additive manufacturing, extrusion).

Faculty members were be on hand to discuss programs and opportunities for collaborations.

Associated Students Productions at Western Washington University provided outdoor activities on the lawn outside the Communication Facility on Friday, June 5. Western students enjoyed rock climbing, bull riding, bungee trampolining and squirtgun shooting.

AS Productions created the last-minute event to allow students to hang out outside and take a break before finals on a beautiful day.

Western students Heather McTurnan, Keegan Strandness and Hope Thompson took to Red Square Thursday afternoon, June 4, to give out free hugs, shrugs, hand-hugs and well-wishes to fellow students in honor of #westerncares. The students also handed out free apples and candy.

A group of Western Washington University students took their desire for change to Old Main June 3 and 4, participating in a 24-hour sit-in to ask the Western Foundation Board of Directors to reconsider its decision to invest in fossil fuels.

The protest started at noon on June 3 and continued to noon June 4.

Western Washington University hosted a delegation from Gyeongju University (GU) for a campus visit on Monday, June 1. During the visit, Western Washington University President Bruce Shepard and Gyeongju University President Soon Ja Lee, signed an Academic Cooperation Agreement between the two institutions.

Student members of the Western Washington University National Press Photographer Association held an end-of-year barbecue and portfolio critique on Sunday, May 31, in the Communications Facility on campus.

Roughly 30 students, alumni, faculty and professionals attended the event; professionals from the Seattle Times and the Associated Press gave presentations highlighting women visual journalists in Pacific Northwest.

Western alumna Katherine Frankhauser visited Western Washington University's Bellingham campus Thursday, May 21, to demonstrate electric bicycles and to talk about bike-sharing programs.

A handful of Western Washington University students launched paper airplanes off of the fourth floor of the walkway bridge in between Beta stacks four and seven during a paper airplane competition Thursday, May 21, in front of the Beta residence hall on The Ridge.

Prizes eventually were awarded for best decoration, longest airtime and farthest flight. The event was organized by student Lauren Brigolin as a community-building exercise for Beta-Gamma students.
