Harrington Field on the south campus of Western Washington University was formally dedicated Saturday, Sept. 27, between games involving the Viking men's and women's soccer teams.
Before the ceremony, the WWU women beat Western Oregon University, 1-0. And before a record crowd of 1,179, the men lost 1-0 to Montana State University Billings.
A couple of events from the Western Washington University Associated Students -- VU Late Night in the Viking Union and the High Street Music and Arts Festival -- put an exclamation point on #WesternWelcome Week at Western.

More than 4,000 students are calling Western Washington University’s residence halls and apartments home after a busy move-in weekend on campus.
The first day of classes at Western is Wednesday, Sept. 24. Western anticipates about 2,800 freshmen and approximately 1,000 transfer students for fall quarter. Total enrollment is expected to be about 15,000, approximately the same as last year.
A pair of first-half goals proved to be the difference as Western Washington University fell to NCAA Division I Seattle University, 2-0, in a men's soccer exhibition game Saturday night at Robert S. Harrington Field on the WWU campus. It was the first varsity game played on the new field and the first time Western soccer has played on campus since 2000.
Brady Ballew opened the scoring in the seventh minute, blasting home a half-volley from six yards after a low cross from Josh Greene.
Whenever we ask Western students, alumni, employees and parents what places they love to visit in Bellingham, Boulevard Park inevitably appears near the top of the list. It's a great place to dance, to walk, to study, to listen to music, to play catch and to watch the sunset.

Western students organized a pair of ceremonies on Aug. 14 in Red Square to honor the memory of Michael Brown, who died on Aug. 9 at the hands of police in Ferguson, Mo. The death of Brown, an 18-year-old black man who was unarmed at the time of his death, set off several days of protests in Ferguson as well as discussions on social media.
The gathering in Red Square was one of many throughout the nation held to remember Brown and to observe a moment of silence. The gathering included a candlelight vigil, speeches, songs and a forum for those in attendance to speak to the crowd.
Presented by Western's Summer Youth Theatre Institute, "Monster Keeper" is a lively, all-ages stage adaptation of the best-selling middle-reader novel "Demonkeeper," by Royce Buckingham.
The play hits the PAC Mainstage at 7 p.m. Aug. 8 and 9 and at 2 p.m. Aug. 10.
