Armed man taken into custody by Bellingham police after making threats

Police arrested an armed man without incident late Monday night after he allegedly made suicide threats near the Western Washington University campus.

No shots were fired, said WWU officials, who sent out an email alert late Monday to students, faculty and staff.

Former Okanogan sheriff retires

Mike Murray, a detective and former Okanogan County sheriff, retired Saturday after 39 years in law enforcement.

Murray served as sheriff for two years after he was appointed to replace retiring Sheriff Jim Weed in March 2001. He was Weed’s undersheriff for 13 years.
