The Western Washington University Chemistry Building, completed in June 1993, houses, not surprisingly, the chemistry department. The department moved to the new building from Haggard Hall during the summer 1993 and began classes in the building that September. Prior to moving to Haggard Hall in 1960, the department had been located in Old Main.
Summerstart, Western Washington University’s advising, registration and orientation program for new freshman students, is being held now on campus through Aug. 18.
Participants register for one of eight two-day session blocks. More than 2,400 new students and 1,200 family members are registered to attend.
The Marrowstone Music Festival concludes its 2011 orchestral season this week in the Performing Arts Center Concert Hall on Western Washington University’s campus.
At 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 5, Marrowstone students will perform works from the chamber repertoire in a concert that's free and open to the public. And on Sunday, Aug. 7, all 200-plus of the festival's young students will get together for the Festival Orchestra Concert at 3 p.m. The performance will feature Gustav Mahler’s monumental “Symphony No. 1 in D Major” – also known as “Titan.”
At the time of its completion in the spring of 2004, the Communications Facility extended the academic core south of the Environmental Studies building. The plan then was for it eventually to form a quad with the Academic Instructional Center, then still on the drawing board.
The Prime Time Band, formed this past February at Western Washington University, performed Wednesday, July 20, in the Underground Coffeehouse as part of the WWU Associated Students' summer noon concert series. The 6- to 11-person ensemble plays originals influenced by the classic sounds of Earth, Wind and Fire, Michael Jackson’s “Off The Wall” album, Stevie Wonder and Quincy Jones while incorporating their own unique modern flavor.
The College of Business and Economics snagged the Western Alumni Association's traveling goodie basket in the latest round of competition, announced July 13.
The Alumni Association periodically awards a basket of treats to the campus department that can best document its school spirit on Western Wednesdays with a photo. The next date for the basket is set for Aug. 3.
The College Success Foundation graduation luncheon on June 10 culminated in celebratory recognition of graduating Washington Achiever and Leadership 1000 scholarship recipients.
