The Vikings, 25-5 overall, are 13-1 at home this season. Central is 16-10. The contest is scheduled for a 7:30 p.m. tipoff.

The state House has approved a $680 million tax package that would shrink tax exemptions, collect more money from smokers and service businesses, and extend the sales tax to new types of purchases.

The 52-45 vote, which came in the pre-dawn hours Tuesday after about five hours of testy debate, finally sends ruling Democrats from the House and Senate into high-stakes negotiations over how to solve a $2.8 billion deficit in the state budget through June 2011.

If redeveloped, the Bellis Fair mall property could hold about 7,000 residents, along with commercial and community space, according to some students at Western Washington University. Some of the mall's infrastructure could even be reused.

And Cornwall Avenue between Chestnut and Champion streets could be transformed and revitalized into a bustling residential and retail strip if anchor stores were placed at each end with smaller spaces in between, including in the alleys. Parking structures would be needed, but a shuttle from the bus station and through the retail area could bring in many people without cars.

These are a few of the concepts that WWU planning students will unveil in a public presentation in City Council Chambers, on Wednesday, March 10. It's part of the Urban Transitions Studio, which is new to the university this year. Through the program, students from various disciplines examine a project from their own studies.

For a guy whose first word was "car," Jess Kenoyer didn't surprise himself when he bought and began to refurbish his first auto before he could drive it.

Kenoyer has gone on to specialize in Audis. He not only made $3,000 profit from the sale of his first Audi, he soon convinced a national magazine, Eurotuner, to feature his third Audi in 2006. The magazine again featured him in its December issue with a long feature entitled "Jess Do It," with his car on the cover.

A young woman was allegedly assaulted during a walk to her car on Western Washington University's campus Saturday, March 5.

The incident occurred at about 1:40 a.m., after the woman, a student at the University of Washington's Tacoma campus, visited friends in a residence hall, said University Police Chief Randy Stegmeier.

More than 50 people gathered on Western Washington University's campus Thursday, March 4, to protest planned tuition hikes and cuts in financial aid.

The protest, organized by Western groups including Socialist Alternatives and Western Votes, voiced opposition to Gov. Chris Gregoire's proposed tuition hikes, budget cuts and financial aid cuts at Western.
