Whatcom County and the city of Bellingham are going to mediation to resolve a dispute over training paramedics for the four Whatcom Medic One units that the Bellingham Fire Department staffs.

Six Bellingham firefighters started training to become paramedics through Western Washington University, where the program is based, in January, said Randy VanderHeiden, who supervises Medic One as the department's medical services officer.
