It didn’t seem to take long for Emily Sullivan, 17, to stand out. 

The senior at Meadowdale High School spent only three months volunteering with the city of Mountlake Terrace’s Kids Krew program as part of her senior project when her supervisor decided Sullivan needed a more permanent role with the program.

“There was a great opportunity to keep her,” said Lori Johnson, youth program coordinator for the city’s Recreation and Parks Department, calling the teen a natural fit.

While her teammates run, she’ll either do push-ups or ride a stationary bike. After practice, Wade will sometimes head for a workout on an elliptical machine.

Whidbey Islander Zach Van Lue's Facebook wall is filled with good wishes. The 34-year-old Zach, born and raised on South Whidbey, is living in Egypt with his wife Basma Kamal.

Zach and his wife live in a houseboat on the Nile River in Cairo, where he's a DJ for NILE FM, 104.2. Here's how the station's Facebook page describes its format: "NILE FM is a local English radio station blasting out on Cairo's airwaves.
