Steven Herzog, the interim superintendent of the Douglas County School District in Castle Rock, Colo., has accepted a superintendent position in the San Francisco area.

The remaining finalist, Gregory Baker, deputy superintendent of the Portland Public Schools in Oregon, will be in the district today, Monday, March 29, touring facilities and speaking with students and staff. At 4 p.m., he will answer questions at a public forum in Bellingham High School's auditorium. Baker will answer questions from a four-person panel consisting of a student, parent, staff member and principal."

"I'm very, very sick, very often, and I always come through," she said.

It's kind of an understatement. Petersen has battled multiple sclerosis since she was a teenager.

She wasn't supposed to make it past 28, she said. She's dealt with weighing more than 400 pounds, and confined to a wheelchair, for much of her life. Most recently, her kidneys started giving out on her."
