BELLINGHAM –Western Washington University’s Small Business Development Center will co-host the Hot100BizBook Club from 10 a.m.-noon on Wednesday, May 23 in the Fireside Room of the Fairhaven Branch of the Bellingham Public Library.

The event is free and open to the public.

The club’s goal is to provide attendees with ideas and advice from popular business books so they can come away with at least one solid idea to increase their businesses’ revenues or profits by at least $100,000. The club will meet once a quarter in 2012.

The featured book at this meeting is “The Goal: A Process of Ongoing Improvement,” by Eliyahu M. Goldratt. “The Goal” is a management-oriented novel that tells the story of a plant manager who is working hard to try and improve performance in his factory. The book has become a model for explaining such ideas as strategic capacity planning, alleviating bottlenecks, the Theory of Constraints, and shows by example how people can apply these concepts in real life.

Western’s Professor of Decision Sciences Peter Haug will attend this meeting. Haug has used “The Goal” as a teaching aid in many of his courses at Western. His teaching areas are project management, process analysis and design, lean manufacturing principles and global operations strategy. He earned a master’s degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Operations Management from the College of William and Mary and his doctorate in Production and Operations Management from the University of Washington.

This event will be facilitated by Eric Grimstead, Small Business Development Center’s certified business adviser. Grimstead has more than 20 years of experience in business development. Grimstead earned a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from the University of Puget Sound. He is also a Certified Global Business Professional.

This event is co-sponsored by Hot100Business, NW Business Development, WWU’s Small Business Development Center, Bellingham Public Library, Clique Studios and Village Books.
