WWU's Fairhaven College World Issues Forum Presents 'Sustainable Cacao Farming in Ecuador' April 11

BELLINGHAM – Felipe Grepa, a farmer, defender of Ecuadoran people’s rights and delegate of the Kallari Association of cacao growers, will present April 11 as a part of Western Washington University’s Fairhaven College of Interdisciplinary Studies’ 10th Annual World Issues Forum.
The World Issues Forums are free and open to the public and are from noon - 1:20 p.m. every Wednesday in the Fairhaven College Auditorium, unless noted otherwise.
Grepa will address the economic and political importance of defending raw materials from Ecuador, especially cacao beans. His commitment to human rights led him to collaborate with members of the Kichwa communities in producing cacao with the dream that chocolate would be recognized internationally as an Ecuadoran product, and that chocolate profits would not remain in the hands of others, but in the hands of the Amazonian cacao farmers.
