WWU to Host Lecture on Tree Migration and Restoration on Dec. 9 in Poulsbo

Western Washington University on the Peninsulas will host Jenise Bauman as part of its Western Lecture Series at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 9 at the WWU Center at Olympic College Poulsbo when she will present “When Ents March: Tree Migration and Restoration within the Age of Climate Change.”

The lecture is free and open to the public; an RSVP is recommended but not required to attend.

In her lecture, Bauman will investigate the response of native and introduced tree species to climate change, including local, regional, and global changes in tree composition. She will also discuss strategies in restoration ecology and initiatives by The City of Poulsbo’s Tree Board and Western’s Huxley College of the Environment.

Bauman is an assistant professor of Environmental Science at Western Washington University on the Peninsulas. Her research couples methods of planting with molecular techniques to better understand how native plant seedlings can be established in disturbed soils with the greatest chance of success.

The Western Lecture Series hosts quarterly educational events with guest speakers as they share insight on popular topics in human rights, the environment, wellness, and more.
