WWU students to read books to children in celebration of Earth Day

Budding environmentalists can spend an hour on Saturday listening to stories about bugs, recycling and trees at a storytime event downtown.

To celebrate Earth Day, the Bellingham Public Library and Western Washington University’s Center for Service-Learning plan to hold a storytime event for children ages 3 through 8 on Saturday, April 24.

From 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. in the Bellingham Public Library's Dodson Room, WWU students will read from a selection of books with themes covering bugs, redwoods, endangered animals, gardens and recycling.

Before the storytime event, Karen Hoelscher, a professor of elementary education at WWU, will present a workshop on choosing and reading books with children at 10 a.m. in the Dodson Room. The workshop is open to anyone interested in reading to children.
