WWU student Anna Corinne Huffman wins WSA Liaison of the Year award

WWU student Anna Corinne Huffman has been named the 2022 Liason of the Year by the the Washington Student Association. Huffman is the director of Legislative Affairs in the Associated Students' Office of Civic Engagement

"I am extremely pleased to know that Washington state has taken steps to make post-secondary education more accessible and affordable for students. I am grateful to have been a part of this progress and to have received the 'Liaison of the Year' award from the Washington Student Association," she said.

"Working as a student liaison for the Associated Students of Western Washington University, and with the Washington Student Association, has been a challenging and rewarding opportunity that has allowed me to better understand the value and impact of student advocacy. It has also made me increasingly aware of the barriers that exist in accessing and navigating the policymaking process; there is still much work to be done to ensure that more students are able to advocate for themselves in the future.

This legislative session, we were able to secure funding to increase eligibility for the Washington College Grant, establish a low-interest student loan program, expand support for students experiencing basic needs insecurities and homelessness, develop FAFSA outreach initiatives to assist students and families in understanding financial aid, and fund a pilot healthcare access program to connect students with critical health services and insurance.

This progress was made possible through the collective efforts of students, administrators, legislators, and other stakeholders in higher education who engaged in this crucial advocacy this year!"
