WWU early release programs offer fun after-school activities for youth

Youth Program's Early Release Enrichment is scheduled to coincide with early release Thursdays and act as an alternative form of childcare, while providing an introduction to life on campus for Bellingham School District K-5 students. Starting this January, Western Washington University is offering a total of seven sessions. Students may register for any number of sessions.

Bellingham program: 

  • Jan. 14 – A Play of Plays
  • Jan. 21 – T-Rex Thursday
  • Jan. 28 – Cultures from Around the World 
  • Feb. 4 – Wild Weather
  • Feb. 11 – Imagination Station
  • Feb. 18 – Chemistry in the Kitchen
  • Feb. 25- Seuss-ology

Sessions will take place from 1:45 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Thursdays on Western's campus. Individual sessions cost $20. $5 off each session when you register for five or more. Click here to register. 

Live in Anacortes? We have an Early Release program there too!

Starting in February, Anacortes School District K-5 students can explore predators and their prey through hands-on marine science. 

Anacortes program: 

  • Feb. 8: Hiding in Plain “Site” (Camouflage)
  • Feb 9: Animal Defenses
  • Feb 10: Build your own Animal 
  • Feb. 11: Survival in Nature
  • Feb 12: Real Marine Science Research (at Shannon Point Marine Center) 

Sessions will take place from 12:05-3 p.m. Monday-Friday at Island View Elementary, with the last day at Western's Shannon Point Marine Center. Cost is $160 for five sessions, or $40 per individual session. Click here to register.
