WWU carolers to help herald tree lighting at December Art Walk

Exhibits and a tree lighting will highlight the December Downtown Art Walk from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday, Dec. 7.

The Downtown Art Walk is a collaboration of downtown art venues, businesses and local and regional artists showcasing the wide array of art and culture found in downtown Bellingham. December’s event from the Downtown Bellingham Partnership will feature several galleries and businesses hosting local, national and international artwork

The event will kick off with a special tree lighting ceremony at the Depot Market Square at 6 p.m. Mayor Kelli Linville, union members of AFSME Local #114 and carolers from Western Washignton University will present the lighting of the tree. Refreshments will also be provided by The Woods Coffee.

December participants include:

  • Fourth Corner Frames & Gallery presents Retro Ride…a nostalgic look back at the Art of the 20th Century. Take a “Retro-sleigh ride” and get a glimpse of the romantic, industrial, experimental, powerful, graphic and thought provoking art of the last century!
  • The Whatcom Museum Lightcatcher Building presents Impressions Improv! See impressive improvisation by local poets, dancers and musicians performing interpretations of art from the newly-opened California Impressionism: Selections from the Irvine Museum exhibition, 6:45-9:30. Café food and brew, too!
  • Make.Shift Art Space says GET READY! They’ve reproduced the tiny artwork of more than 50 local and regional artists, and will be displaying over 100 limited edition one-inch buttons in the gallery. Prepare for jam-packed, organized chaos.
  • Everybody Bike Hosts a Superhero Lighted Bike Parade! Decorate your bike with lights and reflectors, don your superhero cape and light up the holiday Art Walk on a group ride downtown. Refreshments provided. Meet at 6pm at the Public Market.

Other December participants include: Allied Arts of Whatcom County, The Amadeus Project, Artisans Northwest Gallery, Bayou on Bay, City Dogs Grooming, Gabriel’s Art Kids, Greenhouse, Honey Salon, INNATE, Koi Café, The Looking Glass Salon, The Lucky Monkey, Max Higbee Center, Mindport Exhibits, Pacific Arts Holiday Market, The Paper Mill, PFC Dreamspace Studios, Sojourn, Studio UFO, Varvid Inc. and Waterfront Artists Studio Collective.
