WWU announces Latin dance series for adults

Western Washington University will offer adult Latin Dance classes this spring, with participants learning the basic steps of salsa, merengue, rumba and the cha cha.

The dance series is open to the public from 7 to 9 p.m. every Friday from April 15 to June 3 at WWU’s Performing Arts Center. The cost of the series is $110 per couple or $60 per individual.

The classes are taught by two members of WWU’s Ritmo Latino salsa club. Erin Mathias, co-president of Ritmo Latino, has been partner dancing for more than four years. She has experience in not only Latin dance, but also ballroom and swing. Kyle Williams has been with Ritmo Latino for two years and teaches private lessons on and off campus.

In addition to the basic steps, classes will include instruction on turn patterns and individual styling. There is a rotation of dance partners for those who come without one. Optional field trips to ballrooms in town are also available as a way to practice learned skills. No previous experience is necessary.

Space is limited and prompt enrollment is encouraged to reserve space in the class. Program details and registration information can be found online.
