WWU alumna Sarah Myhre to Discuss 'Women, Science and the Trump Administration' Nov. 2 at WWU

Sarah E. Myhre , a scientist, activist and public communicator from the University of Washington, will highlight the stories and voices of women part of the grass-roots organization 500 Women Scientists, as part of the WWU Huxley College of the Environment Speaker Series at 4 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 2 in Academic West 204 on the Western Washington University campus.

The presentation is free and open to the public.

Myhre's research is focused on the paleoceanographic history of the Pacific Ocean, using ocean sediment cores and robots on the seafloor, and she is currently a research associate at the School of Oceanography at the University of Washington. She is a freelance writer and grassroots organizer who grew up in Whatcom County, received her bachelor's degree from Western, and has organized a public climate-education program at the Mt. Baker Ski Area called the Future of Ice. At this presentation, she will be speaking in her capacity as an advocate for women in leadership, as a board of directors member of 500 Women Scientists, the founder of the Seattle chapter of 500 Women Scientists, and a board member of the Center for Women in Democracy.

The presentation will include a question-and-answer period. Anyone interested in the topic is encouraged to attend and participate.

The Huxley College Speaker Series, sponsored by Western’s Huxley College of the Environment, is intended to bring together environmentally-minded members of the WWU and Bellingham communities. Speakers address topics of contemporary environmental concern in the region and the world.
