WWU Alumna Becky Petersen to Discuss Land Preservation Nov. 12

Becky Petersen, Western Washington University alumna and Acquisition project manager for the King County Water and Land Resources Division (WLRD), will present “Conservation and Preservation: Saving Lands for Future Generations” at 4 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 12 in Communications Facility 120 on Western’s campus.

The presentation is free and open to the public.

During Petersen’s presentation, part of Western’s Huxley College of the Environment Speaker Series, she will offer insight into how and why the WLRD acquires property throughout King County.

Petersen graduated from Western in 1997 with a degree in Communications. She has worked in WLRD’s Open Space Acquisition Group for more than 15 years, and has helped permanently protect more than 140,000 acres in Western Washington. The mission of the WLRD is to protect the region’s water and land resources for generations to come.

The presentation will include a question-and-answer period. Anyone interested in the topic is encouraged to attend and participate.

The Huxley College Speaker Series, sponsored by Western’s Huxley College of the Environment, is intended to bring together environmentally-minded members of the WWU and Bellingham communities. Speakers address topics of contemporary environmental concern in the region and the world.
