Western Washington University Youth Programs Anacortes After-School Ocean STEM Program to Explore Marine Mammals this Fall

Western Washington University Youth Programs will begin hosting the second year of After School Ocean STEM this fall.

The program will be held on Wednesdays, Oct. 19 through Nov. 16, from 3:45 p.m. to 5:15 p.m. at Anacortes Middle School.

Designed for students in grades 5-8 to support success on the Science MSP, the Ocean STEM After School Program provides an opportunity for inquiry-based, hands-on learning in an active and engaging environment.

Each session features a different theme in the fields of science, engineering and technology. During the fall program, students will participate in hands-on experiments, games and research to learn about a range of mammals including pinnipeds, fissipeds, cetaceans and sirenians. Participants will also train to be a marine mammal observer and biologist.

Students are asked to bring a rain jacket, healthy snack, water bottle, journal, pencils and a curious mind.

The Ocean STEM After School Program is provided by Western Washington University Youth Programs in partnership with the Anacortes School District and Shannon Point Marine Center.
