Western voted Best Place to Work in magazine survey

Western Washington University recently won Bellingham Alive magazine’s 2015 Best of the Northwest award for “Best Place to Work.”

The annual Best of the Northwest award winners were determined by votes from the public and readership of Bellingham Alive. Western employs about 1,700 permanent faculty and staff. The university is the second largest employer in Whatcom County.

“Coming to work at Western every day is both a pleasure and a privilege – the beauty of our campus is second to none, in every season, the work we engage in on behalf of students is inspiring, and the colleagues here are talented and dedicated to making a positive difference in the world,” said Western President Bruce Shepard.

Western will be among the award winners celebrated at a special VIP reception on Oct. 16 at the Four Points Sheraton.

Western has won several other similar awards. For the past five years, Western has been recognized as one of the best colleges in the nation to work for, according to surveys by The Chronicle of Higher Education.

The Chronicle of Higher Education results – in their most recent ranking in 2015 – were based on a survey of more than 43,500 faculty and staff at 278 colleges and universities.  Only 92 institutions achieved the recognition for specific best practices and policies.
