Western City Center to be open for Art Walk Friday

Western City Center in the Herald Building in downtown Bellingham again will be taking part in Art Walk. The monthly event is slated for 6 to 10 p.m. Friday, April 1; Western City Center will be open from 6 to 8.

Art Walk is a collaboration of downtown art galleries, studios, museums, shops, and restaurants showcasing the unique and creative talent found in Bellingham's art scene. Attendees are invited to stroll through the streets of downtown and enjoy art, food, and community.

An Open House at the future home of Bellingham's new performing arts center, Sylvia Center for the Arts, featuring music by Lucas Hicks and Thomas Deakin, art from Allied Arts RARE expo, a pop-up performance by Bellingham Repertory Dance, square dancing at 8pm, and a Craft Market with local crafters. 205 Prospect St. - the old Cascade Laundry Building next to the old City Hall/Whatcom Art Museum.

Through the Placemaking Competition KAPOW, downtown Bellingham has seen creative ideas come to life, like the Commercial Street Night Market. Stop by to check out these one of a kind interventions that are helping to put Bellingham on the map for creativity, design and downtown vibrancy: 

SyncroTreeCity on the 1300 block of Commercial St., SoapBox on the 1200 block of Railroad Ave., and Big Chair in the Commercial St. Plaza. 

Presenting the opening ceremony of the first Bellingham Music Film Festival (BMFF) at Make.Shift Art Space. BMFF is a celebration of music through the medium of film, with selected films screenings to include music videos, shorts and feature length documentaries and narratives. The opening ceremony will feature music video film screenings and music by Scarlet Locomotive and Momo Grace. This opening evening is free to the public with admission donations encouraged and the evening's bar proceeds will benefit local video store non-profit, Film is Truth. 7-10pm, 306 Flora St.

Come celebrate the Grand Opening of Wandering Oaks Fine Arts Gallery and Glass Studio featuring the photography and glass work of Sheri E. Ten Eyck, paintings by Toby A. Ten Eyck, and the bronze sculptures of William Baldwin. 126 W. Holly St.
