Wellness talk Friday to focus on nutrition

For many of us, eating represents trouble. We feel guilty if we eat what we "shouldn't" and deprived if we eat what we "should." We eat more than we think we should, and we worry about weight.

But to do a good job with eating and with feeding our families, we must feel good about it.

Western Washington University nutritionist Sarah Richey will present "Nutrition and Wellness – Back to the Basics" as the second talk in a 10-part series from 12:15 to 12:45 p.m. Friday, Nov. 2, in Wade King Student Recreation Center Room 219.

At the end of the presentation, audience members will be able to:

  • o Describe the role of nutrition and physical activity in promoting wellness
  • o Distinguish sound nutrition and fitness principles from fad/trendy diet and workout myths
  • o Make informed choices about nutrition and exercise that will optimize personal health/wellness
  • o Recognize that being rigid and strict about eating styles and exercise habits is not a sustainable approach to health

The next installment of the series, "Dieting Craze – Nutrition Fact vs. Dieting Fiction," will take place Dec. 7 in Miller Hall Room 105.

The presentations are the first Friday of every month. For info on the rest of Richey's lectures, visit the Faculty and Staff Wellness Program's website.
