Welcome new students to Western at annual convocation ceremony

Join returning Western students, faculty and staff in welcoming new students to the WWU community by participating in the human corridor leading to Memory Walk at the close of the students' Welcoming Convocation ceremony Sept. 20.

Memory Walk, a commencement tradition, began in 1912 when the first stone engraved with the class year was placed in the sidewalk running parallel to the front of Old Main. A stone representing every graduating class since that time is now in place in this walkway. Beneath each stone lies a time capsule. At the conclusion of commencement ceremonies, the graduates, led by the mace-bearer, the President’s party and the faculty, march out of Carver Gym to the steps of Old Main and place an item in their time capsule.

To participate, meet at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 20 at the Performing Arts Center Plaza.
