Water main replacement still under way

The water line replacement project continues to be challenging and difficult. Conditions change daily, if not hourly, and the original schedule has had to be adjusted multiple times.

This week, the contractor is working in the following areas and is expected to finish by Friday, Sept. 14:

  • Edens North: clean area and complete.
  • Edens Hall: directional drilling to connect the water main and Edens Hall. Drilling will generate some noise but should not be overly disruptive. No water, power or telecommunication shutdowns are anticipated.
  • Old Main Lawn (except at the Edens Hall connection area - see map): backfill, clean area and complete.
  • Humanities: replace majority of the brick.
  • Normal Drive (service road between Haggard Hall/Bond Hall and College Hall/Carver Gym): replace brick.

Areas that will remain fenced after Sept. 14 include the open excavation site at High Street (west of Edens Hall), the Rose Garden area and the excavation site at the southwest corner of Humanities.

Both the Old Main lawn and the Humanities lawn will not be reseeded until the irrigation water is turned back on. At the very earliest, the new water system will be in use on Monday, Sept. 17. At that time, the High Street and Humanities holes can be backfilled and the fencing removed.

The start of fall quarter is quickly approaching, and the Office of Facilities Development and Capital Budget is trying its best to complete this project prior to the students’ return to campus. They appreciate everyone’s continued cooperation.
