Washington Campus Coalition receives $2 million AmeriCorps grant

Washington Campus Compact was awarded $2 million from AmeriCorps to support the Civic Leadership and Engagement Corps program in its second program year.

The Civic Leadership and Engagement Corps (CLEC) will place over 250 AmeriCorps members on campuses and in community organizations across Washington state and Idaho in support of several focus areas, including K-12 and postsecondary academic engagement and success, access to medical and mental health services, food security, and environmental stewardship and education. Members will carry out direct service activities that promote an integrated approach to supporting underrepresented and underserved students and communities.

“The Civic Leadership and Engagement Corps builds capacity and access to programs serving critical needs in our communities. We are pleased to be able to continue this program into a second year and partner with our member campuses across Washington,” said Jennifer Hine, Washington Campus Compact executive director. “Washington Campus Compact has a long history of successful AmeriCorps programs, and this grant enables us to expand into new issue areas and support broader needs.”

Washington Campus Compact, hosted at Western, is a coalition of higher education institutions committed to advancing the public purpose of colleges and universities, educating students for the workforce and civic leadership, and working in partnership to cultivate vital and sustainable communities.
