Vicki Hsueh to serve as director of Women’s Studies Program

Vicki Hsueh, associate professor of Political Science at Western, has been selected to serve as director of WWU’s Women's Studies Program, Brent Carbajal, dean of Western’s College of Humanities and Social Sciences, announced.

“Professor Hsueh has articulated a clear vision for the program – she is well positioned to lead Women's Studies at this exciting and important time,” Carbajal said. “We welcome the Women's Studies Program to the College of Humanities and Social Sciences and we look forward to working with Professor Hsueh and with Women's Studies-affiliated faculty, staff, and students.”

“This is such a terrific opportunity,” Hsueh said, “I am especially thrilled to be working with such an enthusiastic, talented, and committed group of students, faculty, and administrators. Together we can build a strong and vibrant interdisciplinary program.”

Hsueh received a master’s and a doctorate in Political Science from John Hopkins University. Her research and teaching interests include Anglo-American political thought, feminism and gender studies, and indigenous politics and post-colonial theory. She is the author of the book “Hybrid Constitutions: Making and Unmaking Power and Privilege in Colonial America (Duke University Press, 2010),” as well as scholarly book chapters and articles.

Carbajal thanked the search committee.
