Western Libraries’ Heritage Resources department is comprised of the University Archives and Records Center, Special Collections, and the Center for Pacific Northwest Studies. Together, the three units collect and manage valuable and distinctive documentation of the university, the local community, and the Pacific Northwest region.

Basics of Historical Research Workshop

9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, June 8, at the Goltz-Murray Building. Free.

In partnership with the Washington State Archives, Heritage Resources is offering a workshop for community members interested in exploring the past. Presenters will give practical advice and teach basic steps for gathering the information needed to investigate and interpret a historical topic. The workshop will cover finding and using primary and secondary research sources (with a particular emphasis on local and regional libraries and archives), and integrating and interpreting information from those sources in support of historical research. Village Books Western Connections: WWU Professor and James W. Scott Fellow Dr. Polly Myers

Noon to 1 p.m. Tuesday, June 11, at Village Books in Fairhaven. Free.

Village Books and WWU Libraries are pleased to present this brown bag speaker series highlighting the expertise of WWU faculty and staff. Dr. Myers will present on her latest research related to protests around a proposed nuclear power plant in the Skagit Valley, and anti-nuclear protests at Boeing by a women’s peace camp. Basics of Personal Digital Archiving brown bag presentation

Noon to 1 p.m. Friday, June 21, at the Goltz-Murray Building. Free.

Learn some basic tips on managing and preserving your digital files at home including photographs, email, and other documents. Presenters will draw upon professional archiving experience and resources offered by the Library of Congress to suggest best practices for taking care of your digital stuff.
