The 133rd Army Band to kick off concert series

The Summer Noon Concert Series at Western Washington University kicks off at noon Wednesday, July 3, in the Performing Arts Center Plaza.

The series, sponsored by the WWU Associated Students, features a live act every Wednesday throughout the summer. New to the event this year are a voter registration booth, the  AS Outdoor Center's mobile bike clinic (get a tune up) and other sweet treats sprinkled throughout.

The star of the first show is the The 133rd Army Band, known as "Full Metal Racket."

Based out of Camp Murray down near Lakewood, The 133rd Army Band is a diverse group of musicians and ensembles representing the Washington National Guard to audiences throughout the state. Full Metal Racket will help kick off the Fourth of July holiday in the right way with covers of some great rock ‘n’ roll that is sure to have fans moving and singing along.

As a special treat at this concert, free popsicles, ice cream and cake will be distributed while supplies last.

The rest of the schedule:

  • July 10: The Ames (ragtime, rhythm, folk, soul)
  • July 17: Takes All Kinds (blues-rock, funk, soul)
  • July 24: J.P. Falcon Band (acoustic, rock, reggae, jawaiian, country)
