Teaching-Learning Academy dialogue groups starting soon on campus

Everyone who is a part of the WWU campus community -- including faculty, staff, administrators and students -- is invited to join the Fall 2010 Teaching-Learning Academy dialogue.

The TLA’s primary goal is to deepen our collective understanding of teaching and learning from multiple perspectives and will begin by developing a big question related to teaching and learning that is relevant to everyone.

Each year of its now 11-year history, the TLA has moved more and more to translating the results of the group's dialogue into proposed action items. And those who come to TLA will get to hear about some of the past proposals that are now being realized, and also get to be part of advancing proposals for positive change at Western.

There are four options for dialogue groups that meet every other week, for a total of five sessions per quarter: Wednesdays from noon to 1:20 p.m., Wednesdays from 2 to 3:20 p.m., Thursdays from noon to 1:20 p.m. and Thursdays from 2 to 3:20 p.m. But even those who can’t stay the whole time are welcome to come for as long as they can. All of the groups meet in Canada House, with the exception of the 2 p.m. Thursdays group, which will be meeting at the Center for Education, Equity and Diversity in Miller Hall Room 005.

Those who are interested in participating should e-mail megan.otis@wwu.edu and sign up for one of the four dialogue groups. Here are the fall dates, depending on which group you choose: Sept. 29/30, Oct. 13/14, Oct. 27/28, Nov. 17/18, and Dec. 1/2.

The TLA program has a new home in WWU Libraries, so come by Wilson Library 265 (next to the Media Circulation Desk) to see where the office now lives and check out the TLA's teaching and learning resources, which are coming soon.
