TAG family day to support STEM scholarships

The Technology Alliance Group for Northwest Washington is having a "TAG Family Day" at Boxx Berry Farm on Sunday, Sept. 8. From noon until 3 p.m., guests can enjoy food, games and science and technology displays for the whole family.

All of the admission fees from the event will support direct scholarships to students in technology programs at Western Washington University, Bellingham Technical College, Whatcom Community College and Northwest Indian College.

The TAG Technology Scholarship is awarded to students of local higher education who are studying in STEM degrees -- science, technology, engineering and/or math, says Sommer Cronck, TAG's executive director.

Various companies and organizations, such as Bricks and Beyond, will be present at the event to give families some hands-on experience with science and technology displays, Cronck says.

Guests will enjoy ribs, hot dogs, cornbread, salads, beverages, strawberry shortcake and more, all donated by PIER Systems. There will be barrel train rides for the kids and hay rides for everyone (weather permitting).

Admission is $10 per person or $25 per family when pre-registered online; rates are $15 per person and $40 per family at the door. All proceeds go to the TAG Technology Scholarship Fund, which is used to award scholarships to students studying Science, Technology, Engineering or Math at local higher education institutions.

The Boxx Berry Farm event venue is located at 6299 Northwest Road in Ferndale.
