Students to sell art, take portraits before one-night-only film screening Jan. 28

Students in Western Washington University’s club for the Society for Photographic Education are partnering with Pickford Film Center to present a portrait opportunity and print sale entitled “In Due Time.”

The sale will take place during the reception of the one-night-only screening of “In No Great Hurry,” a documentary on the life of street photographer Saul Leiter, on Jan. 28 at the Pickford. Doors open at 5 p.m., with the film beginning at 6:30 p.m.

Students will have an area set up for people to have their portrait taken with the opportunity to use fun props, have group photos or get simple headshots. Portraits will be $10 for one to two people and $5 for each additional person. Professional prints of original student work will be for sale; all prints will be 16 inches by 20 inches and will cost $25.

Featured artists include April Hayden, Ashely Garrels, Quinton Maldonado, Dylan Vogal, Camille Crocetti, Kelly Hill, Patricia Swanson, Greg Crooks and Katie Hudak.

“Pickford Film Center has been an integral part of exposing the Bellingham community to the cinematic arts for 16 years and we are proud to have the chance to work with them in this endeavor,” said Western photography student and SPE member Quinton Maldonado.

The event is a fundraising opportunity to help the WWU SPE students attend the national SPE conference in Baltimore in March.
