Students arrive at WWU as classes begin Wednesday
More than 4,000 students moved into Western Washington University’s residence halls and apartments over the weekend.
The first day of classes at Western is Wednesday, Sept. 25. Western anticipates about 2,800 freshmen and approximately 925 transfer students for fall. Total enrollment is expected to be about 15,000.
“We welcome new and returning students to campus and look forward to a new academic year filled with academic exploration, achievement and success. With so many opportunities for growth, adventure and service, inside the classroom and out in the world, it is an exciting time to be a student at Western,” said Western President Bruce Shepard, who is starting his sixth year as president of Western.
About 70 percent of students living in campus residence halls are new to Western and will be introduced to campus traditions with activities that include Welcoming Convocation and a fireworks display on Sept. 24. The annual Associated Students Info Fair is taking place Sept. 23 and 24 in the Viking Union Multipurpose Room and the Performing Arts Center Plaza. The Wade King Student Recreation Center Late Night for students will be held from 9 p.m. to midnight on Monday, Sept. 23, at the recreation center. Activities will include dancing, fitness class demonstrations, rock climbing, swimming and more.
