Student signatures thank local police

Western Washington University students last week collected more than 1,000 signatures in Red Square last week as part of an effort to thank the local law enforcement agencies that responded to the riot near campus Oct. 12.

Western President Bruce Shepard and WWU Associated Students President Carly Roberts mentioned the effort in an op-ed in The Bellingham Herald Friday. Cards will be sent to the Bellingham Police Department, the Whatcom County Sheriff, WWU Police and the Washington State Patrol, according to the editorial.

The Western Front also mentioned the signing last week, tweeting a photo taken by photographer Danny Miller:

More than 3,000 people have also signed an online petition condemning pledging their support for Western's true values. Check that out online here.
