Student Outreach Services (SOS) Fall Quarter 2018-2019 Peer Mentor Meet n' Greet Wrap Up

The Office of Student Outreach Services (SOS) hosted their Fall Quarter

2018-2019 Peer Mentor Meet n’ Greet on Tuesday, October 9, 2018, 5-7PM in VU 565.  The Peer Mentor Program serves first-year students by fostering excellence through social and academic integration.  Peer Mentors, who are juniors or seniors, provide a student’s perspective on the best places to eat, know-how regarding bus routes and other transportation needs, insights about professors, and send alerts on upcoming events on campus. Students have a ready resource for answers to questions ranging from how to get involved in student activities to how to add a class or declare a major.

The purpose of a mentoring relationship in college is to help students overcome the challenges often associated with the transition to their first year at Western. Peer Mentors provide academic and personal support and build bridges between their mentees and departments and resources across campus.

The Meet n’ Greet was an evening where prospective mentees came to learn about the Peer Mentors and rank their mentor selection based on compatibility. It was an evening of community building and bonding over a delicious meal.

To learn more about how to become a mentor or a mentee, contact the Program Coordinator, Patrick Freeland at Patrick.Freeland@wwu.edu or by phone at (360) 650-3286.
