WWU Western Kids Camp offers cultural experience with South Korean students

Western Washington University’s Western Kids Camp, for students entering kindergarten through sixth grade, is a weekly theme-inspired day camp offering a balance of academic enrichment and interactive recreation.

During weeks six, seven and eight, a group of South Korean students, entering grades four, five and six at JLS Academy in Richmond, B.C., will attend Western Kids Camp.

Children entereing grades four through six registered for Western Kids Camp during these weeks are invited to join the South Korean students on Wednesdays during those weeks for a field trip. This is a unique opportunity for children to learn, have fun and gain a rich cultural experience, and these are the only field trips offered through Western Kids Camp. The cost of the trips is being picked up by JLS Academy, so there is no additional cost for the trips for local registrants.

The weekly dates and themes are as follows:

  • Week 6, July 26-30 - “Birds Eye View: Microscopic World”
    • Field Trip: July 29 - Birch Bay Water Slides
  • Week 7, August 2-6 - “History & Mystery of Bellingham”
    • Field Trip: Aug. 4 - Burke Museum and GameWorks
  • Week 8, August 9-13 - “Parades & Festivals”
    • Field Trip: Aug. 11 - Woodland Park Zoo

Western Kids Camp offers a free and convenient 20-minute drop off and pick up parking permit, and the weekly day camp qualifies for child care tax benefits. Space is limited, so prompt registration is encouraged. Details are on the Web at http://www.wwu.edu/youth or at youth@wwu.edu or (360) 650-3308.
