WWU professor to discuss, show sea creatures in June 5 presentation aimed at kids

Western Washington University’s College of Sciences and Technology will continue its “Wizards @ Western” youth lecture series with “Sea Creatures: Up Close and Personal” at 10 a.m. on Saturday, June 5, in Biology Building Room 234 on the WWU campus.

The event is free and open to the public, and is geared toward children in grades 4 through 8.

Associate Professor Deborah Donovan of WWU’s Biology Department will facilitate the lecture; attendees will examine marine animals under a microscope to lead to a greater understanding of their biology and a greater appreciation of their beauty. Under close inspection, what appears to be a clump of "gunk" will often turn out to be teeming with life. In this presentation, Donovan will explore a variety of animals using a microscope paired with high-definition video and video clips. She will focus on marine invertebrates that are found in our local waters.
