WWU Money Sense seminars begin Oct. 6

Business students at Western Washington University are offering a series of seminars on financial literacy in a program called Money Sense starting Oct. 6.

These free seminars will include food, prizes and will focus on teaching college students the basics of money management and other relevant financial topics.

The Money Sense Program is offered through Western's chapter of Beta Alpha Psi, an international honorary organization for Finance students and professionals. A free dinner will be provided to attendeess beginning at 5:30 p.m. and the seminars begin at 6 p.m.; each seminar will be held in Communications Facility 125. Materials and additional resources will be provided so attendants can follow up on the topics they are interested in.

The date’s and topics covered in the four fall quarter seminars are:

  • Oct. 6: Saving and Budgeting: Topics include living within your means; the importance of saving money; saving for the future: major life expenses.
  • Oct. 20: Your Rights as a Renter: Topics include budgeting for your lifestyle; financial questions to ask when looking for housing; financial lessons about roommates.
  • Nov. 3: Financing Your Education: Topics include how to best navigate scholarships, FAFSA, and student loans.
  • Nov. 17: Investing: Topics include types of investments and setting investment goals.
