WWU debate union to host Chinese national debate team, will debate Chinese sanctions with North Korea

Western Washington University’s Western Debate Union will host an international public debate featuring the Chinese National Team at 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 27, in Communications Facility Room 110 on the WWU campus.

The Chinese National team is on its annual tour of the United States and will be debating a group of Northwest all-stars composed of students from WWU, Whatcom Community College, and Willamette University. The Chinese team is made up of students from Fundan University, Sichuan University and Xi’an International Studies University.

The topic of the debate will be “Resolved: China should increase its sanctions on North Korea.” The debate will be conducted in a British Parliamentary style format and include questions from the audience and discussion afterward.

The event, which is sponsored by the Western Debate Union, CASCAID and the WWU Department of Communication, is free and open to the public.
