Magazine selects WWU as Military Friendly School

Western Washington University has been selected by G.I. Jobs magazine as a “Military Friendly School” for 2011, placing Western in the top 15 percent of all higher education institutions nationwide.

“Your steadfast commitment to educating our great nation’s military veterans will enable the United States to prosper for generations to come,” read the award presented to the university.

The magazine compiled research, including a survey and interviews with veterans, to determine which of the 7,000 college, university and trade schools in the country offer veterans the best education, value and welcome. They assessed such variables as certifications, academic programs, policies, and efforts to recruit and retain military and veteran students.

Based on that research Western was among the top 15 percent, according to the magazine. The WWU Admissions Office and Registrar’s Office compiled the survey information for G.I. Jobs magazine.

G.I. Jobs is a monthly magazine that assists veterans in seeking civilian employment and education. Published by Victory Media, Inc., a veteran-owned business, G.I. Jobs annually selects the nation's "Military Friendly Schools" and publishes results in the annual Guide to Military Friendly Schools.
