Sledge hired as assistant dean of students

Michael Sledge has accepted the assistant dean of students position at Western Washington University, Dean of Students Ted Pratt announced.

“We are very excited to have Michael Sledge return to Western in the role of assistant dean of students, in the Office of Student Life. Michael’s years of experience in higher education coupled with his familiarity with Western’s student-centered values make him an ideal fit for our unit. I believe Michael’s diverse campus experiences and strong desire to assist students in their development will be a great asset for helping us get where we need to be for the future,” Pratt said.

Sledge returns to Western after working at The Evergreen State College for four years in student affairs and residence life. He began working at Western first as a resident director then served for two years in orientation before taking on Residence Life conduct work for seven years.

"I'm excited to be back to Western. I always enjoyed working with Western students, and there are some fantastic staff and faculty here,” Sledge said.

Sledge began his career in higher education as a resident assistant at the University of Iowa, where he earned his bachelor’s degree in English and then master’s degree in Higher Education Administration.

The assistant dean of students reports to the dean of students, and provides leadership for the Office of Student Life, which includes University Conduct and Student Assistance Services. The assistant dean serves as a resource, advocate, and liaison for a diverse population of students, parents, faculty, and staff, and works with a wide variety of student issues including student conduct, student assistance services, and other duties as assigned.
