SAC Speaks Week begins Jan. 31 with documentary film

The Sexual Awareness Center's SAC Speaks Week, an annual series of events, takes place on campus beginning Jan. 31.

All events are free and open to the public. This year’s events are as follows:

  • The SAC and Associated Students Productions Films will present a showing of the film “The Education of Shelby Knox: Sex, Lies, and Education” at 7 p.m. on Jan. 31 in Viking Union 552, followed by a discussion. The film is about Shelby Knox’s campaign for comprehensive sex education in a town where STI infections are rampant and the only sex-ed is abstinence-only education.
  • The Associated Students club Vox: Voices for Planned Parenthood and the SAC will co-host “What it’s Like to be a Sex Researcher,” a presentation by Dr. Pepper Schwartz, Ph.D. at 7 p.m. on Feb. 1 in Arntzen 100. Schwartz’s presentation will cover what really happens when sex and relationships are researched, how she’s played a role in current events and what she tells strangers when they ask what she does for a living.
  • At 7 p.m. on Feb. 2 the SAC presents “Love Games: A Discussion of Lady Gaga and Sexuality” in Academic West 204. The discussion will cover Lady Gaga’s portrayals of sexuality and sexual identity. There will also be a contest for best Lady Gaga costume.
  • The Environmental Center will co-sponsor “Sustainable Cooking Class: Aphrodisiacs” from 6 to 8 p.m. on Feb. 3 at the Community Food Co-Op Kitchen. The class will show participants how to make seasonal aphrodisiac foods. Attendees must send an RSVP email to as.rop.sac@wwu.edu.
