Regina Barber DeGraaff selected for filmmaking fellowship

STEM Inclusion and Outreach Specialist Regina Barber DeGraaff is among 17 fellows selected from over 650 applicants for a fellowship to attend the Jackson Wild Media Lab, a rigorous filmmaking workshop in Grand Teton National Park.

The event Sept. 18-27 is an immersive, cross-disciplinary science filmmaking workshop featuring hands-on experience along with lessons and lectures with leaders in the industry. Throughout the week, the group of 17 young scientists and media creators will collaborate with four community research and conservation NGOs to create short films about science, nature and conservation.

Barber DeGraaff teaches physics, astronomy and science communication at Western in addition to her role as STEM inclusion coordinator, which is devoted to retention and support of underrepresented students and faculty in STEM. She also co-created and manages Spark Science, a multimedia project that aims to share science in an engaging, humorous way while challenging the stereotypes associated with scientists.

The fellowship covers all expenses associated with registration, travel, food and lodging during the workshop. Learn more at www.jacksonwild.org/media-lab-fellows.html
