Reaffirming Western's committment to providing equal employment, preventing discrimination

Western Washington University Provost Catherine Riordan and Sue Guenter-Schlesinger, WWU vice provost for Equal Opportunity and Employment Diversity, sent an email message to all faculty and staff this morning outlining Western's policies on equal employment opportunity, harassment and discrimination. Western is committed to being an equal opportunity employer and an institution free of illegal discrimination.

The full text of the email message is below:

As an employer, Western Washington University finds that it is helpful to periodically remind faculty and staff of its commitment to being an equal opportunity employer and an institution free of illegal discrimination. To this end, below are the links to Western Washington University's Equal Employment Opportunity and Anti-Harassment/Anti-Discrimination policies. We ask all employees to review and re-familiarize themselves with these policies from time to time.

Western Washington University strictly prohibits discrimination and/or harassment against any individual based on age, race, religious beliefs, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, disability or veteran status, or any other status protected by law. If you believe that you have experienced or witnessed any discrimination or harassment, you are required to immediately report the incident using Western Washington University's reporting procedures, which are linked in the policies. Additionally, Western Washington University provides reasonable accommodations for religious beliefs and for qualified individuals with disabilities in accordance with Title VII, the Americans with Disabilities Act, and other applicable state and local laws. Should you require an accommodation, please contact the offices referenced in the policies. The Equal Opportunity Office is committed to be available for assistance or referral in this regard.

We appreciate you taking the time to review and re-familiarize yourself with these important policies. Should you have any questions regarding Western Washington University's policies, please contact Sue Guenter-Schlesinger by email (sue.guenter-schlesinger@wwu.edu) or call the office (360-650-3307) for an appointment.
