Potential new learning management system to be discussed May 22 and 23

Recent developments throughout the state in the adoption of the learning management system Canvas suggest that the technology also may be beneficial to Western Washington University.

After a thorough review of LMS systems, the State Board of Community and Technical Colleges recently announced that it had selected Canvas as its apparent successful vendor. The University of Washington already has identified Canvas as its next institutional LMS, while The Evergreen State College and Eastern Washington University are considering Canvas pending SBCTC negotiations and funding.

In order to introduce the product and to understand the direction that other colleges are moving, Western's ATUS has scheduled the following two presentations:

  • Canvas: The Path from Learning Management System to Learning Platform
By Heather Kane, Director of Business Development, Instructure, Inc. (maker of Canvas)
Noon to 1 p.m. Tuesday, May 22, in Haggard hall Room 153
  • A Review of Canvas by the State Board of Community and Technical Colleges
By Connie Broughton, Director of eLearning and Open Education, SBCTC
    3 to 4 p.m. Wednesday, May 23, in Viking Union Room 567
