Pianist and harpsichordist Marija Ilic to play at WWU May 8

The Western Washington University Department of Music will host pianist and harpsichordist Marija Ilic at 8 p.m. on Saturday, May 8 in the Performing Arts Center (PAC) Concert Hall.

Called a "clear and decisive musician," "compelling," and "poetic" by The New York Times, Ilic’s evening program will feature a harpsichord recital of Bach’s Goldberg Variations.

An active performer of both traditional repertoire and new music, Ilic has performed recitals around the world, including at Carnegie Hall, Musica Viva in Belgrade, and the Aldeburgh Festival in England. Recently, Ilic performed a recital with violist Lawrence Dutton of the Emerson String Quartet at the Smithsonian Institute in Washington, D.C. In addition to her performance schedule, Ilic is the founding principal pianist of the Christopher Caines Dance Company.

A native of Belgrade, Serbia, Ilic holds degrees from the Belgrade Music Academy and the Mannes College of Music, and a doctorate in piano performance from Rutgers University. She currently serves on the piano faculty of Concordia College in Bronxville, N.Y.
