WWU's Wilson Library, Art Annex to get facelifts this summer

It seems that no matter where one turns on the Western Washington University campus this summer, construction of some sort is visible.

Among the many projects taking place on campus are renovations to the exteriors of Wilson Library and the Art Annex. Both of the buildings are receiving exterior treatments this summer to stop leaks and obviate the need for continuous maintenance due to the damage those leaks can cause.

According to this construction recap from WWU's Facilities Management, the fourth-floor reading room in Wilson Library (room 480) has leaks, and the mortar joints in the room's old walls are deteriorated. The mortar joints and bricks are being repaired, and the caulking is being replaced.

The same thing is going on at the Arts Annex, with the addition of some refinished doors and trim. The last time repairs were done to the building was a quarter-century ago in 1985.

Repairs to the masonry will require drilling that will transmit noise throughout both buildings. The majority of the work will be performed on scaffolding.

The project is scheduled to run from mid-June to mid-August.
