Western walks for life

The first-annual Walk of Life suicide awareness event took place on the Western Washington University campus Jan. 26.

The Associated Students and WWU To Write Love on Her Arms Chapter held the event to raise awareness about suicide and to offer resources to students. Attendees learned tips for talking to friends who are experiencing difficulties and heard testimonies from folks affected by suicide.

The group marched to Red Square for a moment of silence. Closing remarks were made by President Bruce Shepard, Dean of Students Ted Pratt. Also speaking at the event were Elva Giddings, director of Prevention and Wellness Services, and To Write Love On Her Arms WWU Chapter President Kayla Imrisek.
